Roy L. Woodworth – 68 – of 5425 State Route 36, Canisteo, NY, died unexpectedly after a brief illness, peacefully in his sleep, Sunday morning (January 19, 2025) in the home with his family.
Born in Elizabeth City, NC on February 20, 1956, he was the son of Herman & Margie (Fipps) Woodworth and the stepson of Muriel Woodworth.
Roy was a resident of the Hornell-Canisteo area for most of his life and attended school in Hornell. He later became a certified electrician through the BOCES Program.
A full-time resident of Canisteo for the past 22 years, Roy was a “Jack-Of-All-Trades” and was a self-employed handyman with skills as an electrician, carpenter & mechanic, working throughout the Hornell-Canisteo area.
A true outdoorsman, Roy enjoyed camping & fishing. He had a deep affection for all animals and a huge passion for wolves. He actually once owned a wolf-husky mix.
Roy was a caring, selfless man who enjoyed being surrounded by family & friends. He enjoyed “Holding Court” every morning while having coffee with his friends at Billy Schu’s Restaurant. His happiest moments, however, were those spent celebrating family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents & step-mother, Roy was preceded in death by his daughter, Rene Acor-Rice; his brother, Benjamin “Benny” Woodworth; his brother-in-law, Kenny Smith; and his sister-in-law, Terri Woodworth.
Surviving are his children, Greg (Bambi) Acor of Melbourne, FL, Christopher (Jesseca) Acor of Canisteo, Lorena Dudley of Hornell and Roy Woodworth Jr. of Florida; 2 brothers, Luther “Eugene” Woodworth of Wichita Falls, TX and Herman (Jeanne Baruth) Woodworth of Myrtle Beach, SC; 3 sisters, Gracie Mae Woodworth Norris Young of Nakina, NC, Annie Pearl Woodworth of Whiteville, NC and Paula Smith of Canisteo; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews & cousins.
At Roy’s request there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 27, 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.
Roy’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.
