Art was one of my professors when I attended Alfred in the late 80s. Always a smile and a laugh or joke. Was our first Honorary brother when we started our fraternity which meant a lot that he’d agree to help advise us when starting out. He will be missed. I had many a conversation with him that revolved around doing things right and being good people. As a member of the fire department, he helped us procure the dunk tank for Hot dog day on numerous occasions. You will be missed. Thank you for your friendship, John Cramer

I was very sad to hear of Art’s passing, but feel fortunate to have known him as both a professor and later as a colleague. As an architectural technology student in 1983 we had to take surveying and I had Art for the lecture portion of the course. It wasn’t my best subject, but he made the class interesting and fun. When I returned to teach in 2000, Art was always a friendly face around the Engineering Building. Even after he retired he would stop in from time to time to say hello. He even went out of his way to record a series on architectural education and I have the CD to this very day. The college’s surveying curriculum continues to thrive on the sturdy foundation built by dedicated faculty like Art. I’m glad I had the opportunity to know him.
