Nancy L. Nisbet – (84) – of 7997 Rose Rd., Hornell (Town of Fremont), died Thursday afternoon (March 7, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Hornell on November 6, 1934, she was the daughter of Ralph & Theresa (Falci) Buono.
Nancy grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1952). For a time, she was employed in the catalog department of JC Penny’s, primarily during the holiday season. For about 10 years, Nancy served as Assessor for the Town of Fremont.
She had been a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell and later was a member of the Big Creek Methodist Church. Nancy enjoyed gardening (both flowers & vegetables) and also enjoyed cooking and was especially fond of processing & cooking the venison for the guys during hunting season. She was an avid reader and could always be found having a book in her possession wherever she may be.
Nancy was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed rooting for her favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon & Chase Elliott. She loved the days spent with her family camping, especially attending dirt races on Super Dirt Week at the New York State Fairgrounds. She also loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees.
In her younger years, when her sons were involved in scouting, Nancy served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was later involved in Boy Scouts of America. She was extremely proud of the fact that all three of her sons rose to the rank of Eagle Scout. Nancy was active in Hornell Little League and Hornell Babe Ruth Baseball during the many years that her sons were playing.
She was married on June 28, 1953 to Howard W. Nisbet JR who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Howard “Howie” (Dorothy) Nisbet III of Hornell, Timothy (Donna Walker) Nisbet of Stokesdale, NC and Doug (Grace) Nisbet of Williamson, NY; 3 sisters, Gloria Griffin of Spanish Fort, AL, Nicoletta “Nikki” McGrosso of Hornell and Kathleen (Skip) Wood of Hornell; 10 grandchildren, Brian Nisbet, Megan (Chris) Dailey, Daniel (Jennifer) Sirianni, Cara (August) Antol, Robert Sirianni, Rikki Nisbet, Patrick Nisbet, Ethan Nisbet, Zachary Nisbet and Christopher (Kari) Bocianski; 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
The family of Nancy L. Nisbet will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where funeral & committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at4:00 PM with Rev. Katherine Griffis officiating. Burial will be in the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
Nancy’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to either to the Fremont Fire & Ambulance, PO Box 462, Arkport, NY 14807 or the CareFirst Hospice, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
