Joann M. Rahr – 68 – a resident at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility, formerly of Canisteo, NY, died early Wednesday morning (September 27, 2023) at St. James Hospital.

Born in Hornell on July 29, 1955, she was the daughter of Robert & Anna (Clancy) Burritt.

Joann grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1973).

She was married in 1979 to Daniel D Rahr (divorced). She later earned her Associate’s Degree in Business from Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred).

A resident of Canisteo, NY for most of her adult life, Joann was a proud “Stay-At-Home-Mom” who took pride in raising her four children.

She was a former communicant of St. Ann’s Church and a longtime member of the Hornell VFW. Joann had a deep love of music, especially country music, and loved listening to her favorite country artist, Brenda Lee. There was always music playing at her home.

Joann was a Green Bay Packers fan (NFL) and a New York Yankee fan (MLB). Nearly every morning she could be found “holding court” at her home as many friends would stop by to have coffee & simply “chit-chat.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Bobby” Burritt, Jr.

Surviving are 3 sons, Ronald (Chip) Schaumberg II of Zephyrhills, FL, Dan (Erica) Rahr of Myrtle Beach, SC and Cory Rahr of Canisteo; 1 daughter, Andrea (Patrick White) Sharp of Canisteo; 1 “Bonus Daughter”, Kyliegh (Justin) Recktenwald of Arkport; her grandchildren, Jersey Schaumberg, Roselyn Rahr, Tabitha Rahr, Imogene Rahr, Raidyn Rahr, Kolby Sharp, Connor Sharp, Kaiden Sharp, Robert White, Libby White, and Hudson Recktenwald. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Stephen (Barb) Burritt, Martin (Roy) Burritt; along with many loving aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews.

Swain, NY / Hornell, NY

Marjorie A. “Margie” (Fucci) Blowers, 77, of Swain, NY passed away at home on September 23, 2023, following a long illness. Margie was comfortable at home and her wish was to spend her final time in the home she shared with her family for almost 50 years.

Born in Hornell on October 7, 1945, she was the daughter of Anthony & Mary (Caruso) Fucci. As a child, she attended St. Ann’s School and was a 1963 graduate of Hornell High School.

On October 5, 1974, she married the late James R. Blowers, and they enjoyed nearly 47 years of marriage together until his death on August 16, 2021. Margie and Jim are united together again!

For many years, Margie worked as a hairdresser before taking time away to stay home with her children. She returned to work as a teacher’s aide for Steuben- Allegany BOCES for 25 years, working with students with disabilities; a job she enjoyed very much.

Margie will forever be remembered as an amazing daughter, wife, mom, and Nana. She gave everything she had to her family. She was an amazing cook and many family meals were enjoyed around her table. Margie’s sense of humor and her ability to make people laugh was a gift. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband, Jim, Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Anthony Fucci; her siblings, Clara Fucci, Michael Fucci, and Maria Ormsby.

Margie is survived by her daughter, Mary (Chris) Clark (and their son, Bryce of Corning, NY); her son, Jim Blowers (and his daughter, Jaiden, of Nunda, NY); her brother, Leonard (Diane) Fucci of Hornell; her sister, Amelia Dempsey of Hamburg, NY; and sisters-in-law, Linda Fucci, Bonnie Miller, Mary Lou Kernahan, and Patricia Selbig; neices and nephews; and special friends, Ann Hoeffner and Martha Bartle.

The family of Marjorie A. “Margie” Blowers will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Ted E. Miller, Jr. – 34 – of State Route 961F, Arkport, died unexpectedly on Thursday (September 21, 2023).

Born in Springville, NY on March 29, 1989, he was the son of Ted Miller and Kathy (Robbins) Miller.

Ted grew up in Springville and was a graduate of Springville Griffith Institution (Springville GI High School).

He was employed for several years at Main Street Pizzeria in Springville, primarily as a delivery driver. He later worked for a time in the shipping department of Winsmith Company in Springville.

He resided in Colorado for several years and had been employed as a “Cattle Boss” at Shadow Ranch, raising Angus Beef. He has resided in the Arkport area for the past 6 months and was employed in the maintenance department at HP Hood Dairy (formerly Crowley’s Dairy).

A true outdoorsman, Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. In his younger years, he was a member of the Springville Field & Stream Club and a member of the Springville Moose Club.

He was married on September 21, 2019 to the former Jessica Glover who survives. Also surviving are his step-daughter, Jaidynn Glover of Arkport; his mother, Kathy Miller of Lakeland, FL; his sister, Jaime Farner (Nick Farner) of Collins, NY; his brother, Brandon Holmes (Aislinn Lewis-Holmes) of Montross, VA; along with other extended family.

Marilyn Grace Mosher – 78 – of Corning, NY died Tuesday (September 19, 2023) at Arnot Ogden Medical Center following a long illness.

Ann F. Smith – 79 – of 2967 State Route 36, Jasper, NY died early Thursday morning (September 7, 2023) at her home, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Troy, NY on June 3, 1944, she was the daughter of Arthur & Eleanor (Omelia) Fleming.

Ann grew up in Watervliet, NY and was a graduate of Watervliet High School (class of 1962). She resided in Connecticut for several years and for about 30 years lived in North Ft. Myers, FL. She has resided in Jasper for the past two years.

She enjoyed quilting, especially patchwork quilting. A self-proclaimed “Shop-A-Holic,” Ann loved collecting items purchased on the Home Shopping Network. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and also enjoyed going out to dinner.

Ann was married to Gordon Harrison Smith who died April 28, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her son, Erik Smith.

Surviving are 2 sons, Alan (Penny) Smith with whom she resided and Douglas (Sue) Smith of Nampa, ID; 1 daughter, Jane (Richard) Simmons of North Ft. Myers, FL; 1 sister, Eleanor Jane Linendoll of Watervliet, NY; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews.

Maximilian “Max” Walsh

Heaven’s gain was our loss when our Little Saint, Maximilian “Max” Walsh, was called to the Lord on September 5, 2023. He came into this world too soon and was taken too soon. Although he never spent any time with us, he touched all of our lives in many ways. Max will never be forgotten!

James “Jay” Pullman, Jr. – 80 – of 6 Brush St., Arkport, formerly of Hornell, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 2, 1943, he was the oldest of seven children born to Dr. James & Johanna (Blaas) Pullman.

Jay grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (Class of 1961). He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and later earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

He resided in Newfield, NY for many years and was employed as an English Teacher at Ithaca High School for over 35 years, retiring in 1999. Following his retirement, Jay moved to Bay St. Louis, MS where he resided for a short time. After losing his home there to Hurricane Katrina, he moved back to the Hornell/Arkport area where he met his wife, Terry in 2005.

After moving to Arkport, he was finally able to devote time to his passion of oil painting. Jay studied art in many locations throughout the world, including France, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Tennessee and New Hampshire. In recent years, his home has become an art gallery with countless paintings on the walls. Jay has created and sold thousands of paintings for people throughout the country.

Jay had a deep appreciation of music and was a gifted guitar player. In his younger days he was a member of a band, playing in the Ithaca area. He enjoyed going to concerts and also visiting coffee houses.

He was a member of the St. James Property Board and also served as Vice President of the Bethesda Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James & Johanna Pullman; and by his former wife, Patricia “Pat” Schu Pullman.

Jay was married on March 11, 2006 to the former Theresa “Terry” Guenther who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Amy (Steven) Galiotti of Spencerport, NY; his son, James (Eydie) Pullman of New Albany, MS; 3 step-daughters, Elsa (Michael) Geraci of Rochester, Kristen (Justin) Hammond of Nashville, TN and Katie (Max) Houy of Arkport; 3 brothers, Joseph “Joe” (Ellen Ketchum) Pullman of Truxton, NY, John (Sue) Pullman of Cardwell, MT and William “Bill” (Tamara) Pullman of Los Angeles, CA; 3 sisters, Helena (Paul) Bunker of Sinking Spring, PA, Linda Pullman of Wellsville and Johanna (David) Jaffer of San Jose, CA; 8 grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Dean G. Wesley – 86 – of 114 Crosby St., Hornell, died early Friday morning (August 25, 2023) at Maple City Rehab & Nursing (formerly Hornell Gardens) with his loving wife by his side.

Born in Dansville, NY on December 23, 1936, he was the son of Gorden & Janet (May) Wesley.

Dean grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1956). He was a veteran of the US Army, serving his country from 1959 – 1961 and was stationed in Japan for most of his service. He later served as a member of the US Army Reserves.

For 38 years, Dean was employed as a machinist at the former Foster-Wheeler Corporation, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed golf and was well known around town for his long daily walks during his retirement years. Dean was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Syracuse Orangemen. He also loved his “canine companion,” Alex, very much.

Dean was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church; St. Jude Parish (Alfred) and St. Ann’s Church. He was a member of the Hornell American Legion and a former member of the Hornell Moose Lodge and the Hornell Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon & Janet Wesley; his daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan (Rainwater) Wesley; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard Wager & Donald Wager.

Dean was married in Cohocton, NY on November 18, 1961 to the former Jean Marie Wager who survives. Also surviving are his son, Michael Wesley (and his former spouse, Julianne Blanco Wesley) of Hornell; his daughter, Liz Wesley of Leroy, NY; his brother-in-law, Douglas (Beth) Wager of Warminster, PA; 3 sisters-in-law, Deborah (Robert) Thurling of Keuka Park, NY, Janet Wager of Millersville, PA and Jeanette Wager of Schwenksville, PA; his special cousins, Johanna Curtis and Sandy Smith; several nieces & nephews; along with his “girlfriends” at Maple City Rehab & Nursing.

Ezequiel “Zeke” Rodriguez – (66) – of 140 Hornell St., died Thursday evening (August 24, 2023) surrounded by his family, following a long illness.

Born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico on September 24, 1956, he was the son of Juan & Carmen (Rivera) Rodriguez.

Zeke grew up in New York City and was a graduate of Brandeis High School. He was a veteran of the US Army from 1975 to 1978 and ran concurrently with the National Guard until 1998. He was stationed in several locations including North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas and Germany.

He has resided in the Hornell area for over 20 years and was a self-employed carpenter and handyman also, a nurse assistant, home health aide, & forklift operator.

Zeke enjoyed music (especially Salsa Music) and played the Congas (AKA Conga Drums). He also was a “nature lover” who enjoyed camping & fishing. Although Zeke had no special team, he liked watching NFL Football on TV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan & Carmen Rodriguez.

Survivors include his longtime friend & companion, Celine Le with whom he resided. Also surviving are his children, Giselle Ortiz (Rodriguez), Chaz Rodriguez, Rochen Loren Rodriguez, Nicole Sherise Rodriguez, Vanessa Jovan Rodriguez, Fabian Davon Rodriguez, Nikko Rodriguez;
his siblings, Juan R. Rodriguez, Evelice Solano, Marycel Rodriguez and Enid Gonzalez; his nieces & nephews, Shenice Patton, Jamal Rodriguez, Yvonne Nicole Rodriguez, Onix Solano, Julian Solano, Elisha Rodriguez-Ford, Alexis Torres, Yaxier Torres and Naya Gonzalez; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; other family members; Stella Millett, Pedro Solano and Henry Gonzalez; and many friends from Hornell.
