Almond, NY / Hornell, NY
Sally A. Allen, loving mother, Nonna, and devoted educator, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The sadness of this departure, however, does not reflect the uplifting theme of her life and its profound impacts.
Her journey began on November 24th, 1951, when she was born to Salvatore J. and Antoinette M. (Carretto) Constantino, hard-working Italian immigrants who settled in Hornell, NY.
Sally married in 1971 and had three children. Our mother dedicated her life to raising us. When the youngest started Kindergarten, she followed him to Alfred-Almond Central School, and never left (haha). AACS is where she found her calling in Special Education. She spent the next 39 years there, with an open door, an open mind, and an open heart. It was never a job – simply love – for every student, colleague, staff member, and on and on… Her humble influence and infinite generosity of spirit will echo through the halls of Alfred-Almond forever.
No words can truly capture the beauty of her character and the power of her heart.
Our mother was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Frank Constantino and sister-in-law Sarah (Clark) Constantino.
She is survived by her son, Christopher (Ginger Veneziani) Allen; her daughters, Andrea (Randy) VanWey and Amy (Jamie Sick) Allen; her former spouse and father of her children, Larry M. Allen; her grandchildren, who meant the world to her: Sarah Antoinette (Spenser Ormsby) Johnson, Abbey Rose VanWey, Lauren Pamela Johnson, Mia Ann VanWey, Kevin James Shinebarger; and two bonus grandchildren, Colin and Ethan Sick.
The family of Sally A. Allen will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, our mother would like donations to be made to The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA), 730 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
