Leo A. Hillman – 86 – of 50 East Main St., Hornell, died early Saturday morning (May 24, 2014) at his home, following a long illness.
A native & life resident of Hornell, he was born September 9, 1927 and was the son of Robert & Rose (McCarthy) Hillman.
Leo attended Hornell High School and later served his country as a member of the US Navy. He was employed for 37 years as a service repair technician for Sears in Hornell, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. Leo enjoyed hunting & fishing and, as a dedicated sports fan, also enjoyed watching football and baseball — especially the New York Mets.
Leo was preceded in death by 2 sons, Michael who died January 24, 1988 and Thomas who died April 7, 1994; and also his brother, John Hillman who died September 18, 2008.
He was married on February 24, 1951 (63 years) to the former Isabelle Perrin who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Roseanne Hunt of Hornell; 2 sons, Steven (Sandy) Hillman of Mt. Shasta, CA and Joseph (Karen) Hillman of Plantation, FL; 1 brother, Robert (Eleanor) Hillman of Hornell; 1 sister, Rosemary Walton of Ashville, NC; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
The family of Leo A. Hillman will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Leo’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
In honor of Leo’s service to his country by serving in the US Navy, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.
