Seraphina A. Fortuna

Seraphina A. “Sarah” Fortuna – (94) – a resident of Hornell Gardens, formerly of 36 Sawyer St. Site, Hornell, died Tuesday evening (November 2, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.  She had resided at Hornell Gardens since 1998.

A native & live resident of Hornell, she was born June 29, 1916, and was the daughter of Dominic & Rose (Girondo) Carretto.

Sarah attended Bryant School in Hornell and was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a lifelong communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sons of Italy.
She was employed for several years as a waitress at the lunch counter of the former Dunn’s Drug Store.  She worked many years at Loohns Dry Cleaners and volunteered her time as a “Foster Grandmother” at St. James Mercy Hospital for several years.

Edward F. Morey

Edward F. “Ed” Morey – 92 – formerly of Church St. Court, Hornell, died Thursday evening (October 28, 2010) at the Wellsville Manor where he has resided for the past 2 years.

Born in Hornell on June 3th, 1918, he was the son of Rocco & Bess (Shearer) Morey.

Adrian W. Buisch

Adrian W. Buisch – 72 – of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Hornell, died unexpectedly at his home.

Born in Hornell on February 8, 1938, he was the son of Louis & Elizabeth (Roosa) Buisch SR.

Adrian grew up and attended school in Hornell.  He was a graduate of Berkshire Prep School in New Hampshire and later attended Northwestern University.  He was a member of the US Army Reserves.

Catherine R. Solo

Catherine R. Solo – (88) – formerly of 314 Arlington Place, Hornell, died Wednesday afternoon (October 20, 2010) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath where she has resided for the past three years.

Born in Hornell on August 13, 1922, she was the daughter of Carman & Frances (Beaird) Solo.

Hugh C. Mortimer

Hugh C. Mortimer – 91- formerly of 7 Wightman Ave., North Hornell, died Wednesday evening (October 20, 2010) at McAuley Manor where he has resided for the past 2 years.

Born in Sparrow Bush, NY on August 19, 1919, he was the son of Charles & Catherine Mortimer.

Hugh grew up in the Sparrow Bush – Port Jervis area and was a graduate of Port Jervis High School.  He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy.

He was employed in several capacities, including master mechanic for 44 years at the former Erie Railroad, Erie Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail.  He was stationed in several locations, including Port Jervis, Hornell, Scranton, PA, Gerard Oh and Marion, OH.  He returned to Hornell in 1982 following his retirement.  While living in Port Jervis, he was a life member of the Masons Lodge #328.

William L. Kiley

William L. “Bill”  Kiley – 76 – of 55 West Ave., Arkport, died unexpectedly Monday evening (October 11, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital.

Born in Canaseraga on September 8, 1934, he was the son of William & Olive Kiley.

Joyce E. Kelly

Joyce E. Kelly – 83 – of 291 Grand St., Hornell, died Sunday morning (October 10, 2010) at St. James Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in Dansville on December 13, 1926, she was the daughter of Dillis & Florence (Wampole) Cramer.

Joyce grew up in Ossian, NY and was a graduate of Dansville Central School (class of 1945).  She resided in Canisteo for about 2 years and has lived in Hornell for the past 60 years.

Mary E. Hollenbeck

Mary Elizabeth Hollenbeck – 94 – of Andover, formerly of Greenwood, died early Saturday morning (October 9, 2010) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.

Born in the Town of Ward on June 20, 1916, she was the daughter of George & Carrollotta (Corwin) McAndrews.

Mary was a graduate of the former Alfred High School (Class of 1936) and later attended Geneseo Normal School.

She lived in Buffalo for several years where she was employed in the shipping departments at the Dunlop Tire Corporation.  She later resided in Lockport for several years.  While in Buffalo, she met Lloyd S. Hollenbeck.  They were married in 1939.  She has resided in the Alfred, Greenwood & Andover areas since 1948.

Dr. Maurice Rucker

Dr. Maurice Rucker – 79 – of Maple St., Hornell, formerly of Alfred, died Wednesday (September 29, 2010) at McAuley Manor.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 7, 1931, he was the son of Joseph & Julia (Marks) Rucker.

Maurice was a graduate of S.J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Brooklyn College.  He enrolled in New York University where he earned his Master’s Degree and earned his PhD in Economics from Columbia University.

Sharon F. Perkins

Sharon F. Perkins – 67 – of 2221 County Rt. 109 (Turnpike Road) died unexpectedly on Thursday (September 23, 2010) at her home.

Born in Cuba, NY on April 17, 1943, she was the daughter of Gladys (Conrad) Brown.

Sharon grew up in Belfast, NY and was a graduate of Belfast Central School (Class of 1960).  She has resided in the Hornell area for most of her adult life.

She had been employed for a time as a waitress at Pudgies Pizza in Hornell and for many years was employed at Crowley’s Dairy in Arkport, retiring in 1998.
