Ann M. Rohan – 80 – of 250 Grand St., Hornell, died Saturday evening (June 15, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness.

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born August 9, 1932 and was the daughter of George & Bernadine (Green) Phillips.

Ann was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1950).  She had been employed for several years as a teller at Steuben Trust Company and briefly worked at Corbin Wood Products and also in the Admissions Office of the former Bethesda Community Hospital.  For about 18 years, Ann was employed as an underwriter at Robert A. Sweeney Insurance and most recently for Tom White Insurance.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a longtime member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church where she would often help out in the parish office.  Currently, she was a member of St. Ann’s Church.  Ann had been a member of the St. Ann’s Mother’s Club and also the Ladies of Columbus.

Diane S. Clemons – 58 – of 86 North Church St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening (June 12, 2013) in Cuba, NY.

Born in Cuba on June 14, 1954, she was the daughter of Clyde & Aileen Clemons.

Growing up, Diane resided in several locations including Cuba, West Clarksville, Portville &Wellsville & for many years lived in Friendship, NY.  She has resided in Hornell for the past seven years. 

She was a graduate of Richburg High School (class of 1972).  Diane was employed for over 10 years at K-Mart Store in Wellsville.  She later worked in the housekeeping department of SUNY Alfred.

Jillian Dagon Andolina, age 26 of 24 Meadowbrook, Arkport, died Saturday evening (May 11, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a courageous 2 ½ year battle with Leukemia.

Born in Hornell on January 17, 1987, she was the daughter of Dr. Richard and Molly (Dagon) Andolina.

Jill grew up in Arkport and was a graduate of Arkport Central School, Class of 2005.  She attended SUNY at Alfred, graduating with an associate’s degree in 2007.  In 2009, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from SUNY at Geneseo.  Jill’s plan to obtain her Master’s Degree was interrupted when she was diagnosed with leukemia on November 12, 2010.

Jill was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  She was also a member of the Hornell Association and the Arkport American Legion Post 1248 Auxiliary.  A self-proclaimed “Country Concert Queen” she enjoyed attending her favorite country music concerts with her numerous friends.  Jill was a dedicated fan of The Ohio State University football team, attending numerous games over the years.  She was such a fan that she named her dog Buckeye.  A lover of the outdoors, she always looked forward to her family’s annual summer fishing trip to Canada.  Jill was a frequent visitor and volunteer at the Hornell Humane Society and very active in Relay for Life.

Jill will forever be remembered for her brave and fearless fight against cancer.  Throughout her treatment, she inspired family, friends, and the loving medical community with her ability to keep a smile on her face while fighting this dreaded disease.  She never complained, even while facing the numerous effects associated with aggressive chemotherapy and two bone marrow transplants.  Jill continually showed courage in the face of adversity, found humor when tears should have prevailed, and an ability to comfort her family and friends when she herself deserved comfort.  Right up to the very end, Jill taught everyone the true meaning of being tough.  On April 13, 2013 she posted in Facebook the following:  “I love all of you so much!  And it can’t go unseen on how much I cherish and appreciate all the support from family, friends, and the community.”  Those who knew Jill realize that a kinder or more appreciative person never touched their lives.  She truly will be missed.

Jill was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Elsie Andolina, and her maternal grandfather, James Dagon.

In addition to her parents, Jill is survived by her three loving and protective brothers, Dr. Richard Andolina, Jr. of Buffalo, Dr. Nicholas Andolina of Alexandria, VA, and Mitchell Andolina of Arkport; her paternal grandfather, Frank Andolina of Wellsville; her maternal grandmother, Marieka Dagon of North Hornell; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jill’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mary Catherine “Cac” Ludden, age 88, of 205 Hornell St., died unexpectedly Thursday evening (May 2, 2013) at her home.

Born in Hornell on July 2, 1924, she was the daughter of Harry & Kathryn (Grumley) McAndrew.

Mary Catherine grew up in Rexville, NY and was a member of the first graduating class of Greenwood Central School.  She attended Rochester Business Institute in Wellsville where she took secretarial & stenography classes. 

Residing in or around the Hornell area, Mary Catherine was employed for about three years as a clerk/stenographer for the former Erie Railroad and then spent several years devoted to raising her beloved family.  In the early 1970’s, Mary Catherine began working at the former Karl Medical Group in Hornell and later for Dr. McCormick and Dr. Harder as an insurance specialist in the billing department.  After more than 20 years, she began a well-deserved retirement enjoying her children and grandchildren. Her home was the center of many large family gatherings where she most enjoyed hosting everyone and doting on those she loved. 

Cac was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church where she was a member of Perpetual Adoration.  In addition to her faith filled life of prayer and devotion to her church and others, she also enjoyed reading but nothing more than spending time with her family.  She was one of God’s special creations to be sure and will be greatly missed by all.

Cac was married on October 26, 1946 to Eugene “Gene” Ludden who died July 30, 2004.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter & son-in-law, Maureen & Bob Parada, and her sister Teresa Decker.

Surviving are 3 sons, Bill (Theresa “Terry”) Ludden of Hornell, Chris (Sylvia) Ludden of Pittsford, John (Nancy) Ludden of Burlington, VT; 3 daughters, Anne (Bruce) Prashaw of Syracuse, Mary Kay (Jim) Rahmlow of Fairport and Peggy (Ken) Diehl of Pittsford; her brother-in-law, Harold Kittell of Hornell; 16 grandchildren, Michael (Debbie) Parada, Rob Parada, Peter (Sarah) Parada, Sabrina (Lee Dykeman) Ludden, Melissa (Jeff) Robertson, Todd Ludden, Katie Rahmlow, Christopher Rahmlow, Jessica (Ryan) O’Rourke, Michelle Diehl, Amy Diehl, Christopher (Marina) Ludden, Maxwell Ludden, Samantha Ludden, Rebecca Ludden & Matthew Ludden; 7 great- grandchildren, Chloe Dykeman, Kendyl Dykeman, Carter Dykeman, Landon Robertson, Chase Robertson, Tigris Parada & Saoirse Parada.  A special niece Sharon (Decker) Hill, nephews Richard (Cathy) Decker and Patrick (Linda) Decker, and several cousins also survive.

Anna May Stottlemyer – (65) – of 3081 County Route 6, Cohocton, NY died Friday evening (April 26, 2013) at Hornell Gardens, following a brief illness.

Born in Oceanside, CA on July 1, 1947, she was the daughter of Henry & Betty (Staley) Chensa.

Anna grew up in Oceanside, CA where she graduated from high school an she resided in California for most of her life.  She lived in Arizona for about 2 years and has resided in the Cohocton area for the past 5 years.

Anna had a love of animals and enjoyed bird-watching and taking care of her dogs.

She had been married for about 37 years to Walter Stottlemyer who died in 2006. 

Mary Louise (Sayles) Allison – 88 – died early Wednesday morning (April 24, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient for ten days.  

On January 24, 1925, a day of a total eclipse of the sun, Mary was born at Bethesda Hospital, the fifth child of Stephen Fred Sayles and Irene Weld Sayles. 

Mary grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1943). She was first, and always, a caregiver. Babysitting since the age of 12, she chose nursing as a career, graduated from the University of Rochester and worked on the maternity ward at Bethesda Hospital.  For many years she also taught  classes to expectant mothers. 

In June of 1951, Mary met Sindal Burton “Burt” Allison at a strawberry social. They married six months later.  He predeceased her July 3, 1995. 

Sawyer S. Korb – 20 – of 7 Hakes Ave., Hornell, died unexpectedly Saturday evening (April 20, 2013) at his home.

Born in Dansville on May 23, 1992, he was the son of Wendy (Creech) Korb and Russell Korb.

Sawyer grew up in Arkport and attended Arkport Central School through his sophomore year.  While living in Arkport, he played soccer and excelled on the baseball field.  Sawyer was a gifted pitcher in the Arkport Junior Baseball League, the Hornell Babe Ruth Baseball League and as a member of the Arkport High School (Blue Jays) Baseball Team.  During his sophomore year, Sawyer received the Outstanding Citizen Award.

Loren D. Jones – 70 – of 15 Wightman Ave., North Hornell, died unexpectedly late Friday evening (April 12, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he had been taken by ambulance after being stricken at home.

Born in Wellsville on June 13, 1942, he was the son of Harry & Marion (Roeske) Jones.

Loren grew up in Wellsville, NY and attended Wellsville High School.  He was a four year veteran of the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1965.  He later served six years in the US Army Reserves.  He resided in Castile, NY for many years and has lived in North Hornell for the past 15 years. 

For several years, Loren was employed as a milker & herdsman at Emerling Farm in Perry.  For about 10 years he worked as a machinist at Gunlock Corporation in Wayland, retiring about 5 years ago.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.  Loren also loved watching NASCAR and going to the Woodhull Race Track.  His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Arlene E. Reynolds – (82) – of 13 West St., Hornell, died early Tuesday Morning (April 9, 2013) at the Taylor Health Care Facility in Bath, following a long illness.

A native and life resident of the Hornell area, she was born August 16, 1930, and was the daughter of Raymond & Anna (Grunups) Hocroft. 

Arlene was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1949).  Over the years she had been employed in several capacities, including supervisor at Loohns Cleaners, manager at Shorts Liquor Store in Alfred, and Nurses aid at the Hornell Nursing Home.  For many years she served as night manager at Steuben ARC, retiring in 1995.

Following her retirement, Arlene volunteered her time at Concern for Youth, the Kid’s Café, and as a “Foster Grandparent” for the kindergarten class at the North Hornell School.  She had been a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Hornell VFW and the Hornell Alumni Association.

Rodney T. “Rock” Shackelford – 54 – of 28 Washington St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Sunday morning (March 31, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital.

Born in New York City on July 31, 1958, he was the son of Bobby Lee Shackelford and Queen (Brown) Shackelford.

Throughout the years, Rodney resided in many locations, including New York City, Binghamton, Olean, Wellsville, Kingston and has lived in Hornell for the past 8 months.

For many years he was employed as a chef at several restaurants, including Perkins, Applebee’s and Kingston Resort.  Most recently he worked construction for the State of New York.

He was married on July 8, 2000 to the former Ashley Brownell who survives.  Also surviving are his daughter, Ta’Nika Shackelford; 3 step-children, Malachi Gadson, Ayden Rideout & Dillen Rideout; his mother, Queen Shackelford; 2 brothers, Omar & Jeffery; 1 sister, Cheryl; several nieces & nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours.  Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.
