Georgia S. Psyhos, 91, formerly of 83 East Washington St., Hornell, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 13, 2010.

Georgia was born on November 28, 1918 in Newark, NY to Nicholas and Katina Scarmoutsos of Koupia, Greece.

When Georgia was 3 or 4 years old the family moved back to Koupia Greece where she spent most of her childhood. Upon returning to America after the war in 1948, she spent her first days back in America living with an uncle in Corning, NY and worked in her uncle’s candy store, located in Watkins Glen, NY.

Josephine M. Fenti –  formerly of 1 Sawyer St. Site, Hornell, died Friday morning (August 6, 2010) at McAuley Manor, where she had resided for the past 1½ years.

Born in Detroit, MI on August 14, 1914, she grew up in Italy, returning to the United States at the age of 13, living with her mother, Rose and step-father, Bennie Yarcone.

Josephine was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  She had been employed at Birds Eye Frozen Foods in Avon for about 10 years and also worked as a seamstress for a local company.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and was a great cook, specializing in homemade pastas.

Anna Di Raimondo, 84, of 1190 County Route 66 (Green Acres Trailer Court), Hornell, passed away Saturday evening at McCauley Manor, following a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Santa (Constantino) Puleo.

She grew up in Brooklyn and also lived part of her life in Manhattan.  On July 27, 1946, she married Peter A.
Di Raimondo Sr., five days after Peter was discharged from the Marine Corp.  They returned to Brooklyn to live where she was a member of Sacred Heart Church and later St. Stephens Church.

Joseph L. “Joe” Conley – 62 – of 155 North Main St., Hornell, died Saturday afternoon (July 31, 2010) at Highland Health Care in Wellsville, where he had resided for the past 2 ½ months.

Born in Gorham, NY on November 13, 1947, he was the son of Melbourne & Olive (Fleishman) Conley.

Joe grew up in Pulteney, NY and attended school in Hammondsport.  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving his country in Vietnam where he was wounded in action and received 6 medals.  While in the Armed Forces, Joe also took several classes in stock control & accounting.

Carl A. Carpenter – 53 – of 167 Lincoln St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning (July 20, 2010) shortly after arrival at St. James Mercy Hospital.

Born in Wellsville, NY on October 11, 1956, he was the son of Gerald & Lillian (James) Carpenter.

Carl grew up in Short Tract, NY and Birdsall, NY and was a graduate of Canaseraga Central School (class of 1974).  Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country from 1974 until 1978.

Francis W. “Frank” Gallese – (85) – of 1190 County Route 66 (Green Acres Trailer Court), Hornell, died Monday evening (July 12, 2010) at McAuley Manor, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on October 17, 1924, he was the son of Carmine & Nicoletta (DeSanto) Gallese.

Frank, affectionately known as “Peep”, was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later attended Hornell High School.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Navy in the South Pacific.

Peep resided in Buffalo for nearly 25 years where he operated various Service Stations.  He returned to Hornell in 1971 to own & operate Gallese’s Auto Service.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  He had also been a member of the Hornell American Legion and the Hornell VFW.  Peep loved his family and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting & fishing.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Carmine & Nicoletta; 4 brothers, Angelo “Harp” Gallese, Dominick “Bill” Gallese, Charles Gallese and Donald Gallese; 5 sisters, Rose Marino, Jovenia “Dena” Libordi, Josephine Gallese, Josephine Gallese and Mary Felli.

He was married on May 5, 1950 to the former Vivian Glover who survives.  Also surviving are his son, Francis Roy (Maria) Gallese of Rochester; his daughter, Mary Ann (John) Kenefick of Clarence;  2 sisters, Rita Roast of Rochester and Lucy Wiley of Hornell; 7 grandchildren, Karlene Gallese, Gianna Gallese, Carmen Gallese, Zachary Gallese, Katherine Kenefick, John Kenefick, &Courtney Kenefick; 1great-grandson, Jacob Kenefick-Sivic and many nieces & nephews.

The family of Francis “Peep” Gallese will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 PM  –  7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Frank’s family request that any memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell animal Shelter, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.  Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
