David R. “Dave” Housen – 59 – of 7519 Knoll Crest Dr., Almond, died Monday (January 9, 2012) at his home, following a long illness.
Born in Binghamton on April 6, 1952, he was the son of George & Clare (Gilgallon) Housen.
Dave grew up in Appalachian, moving to Alfred at the age of 16. He has resided in the Alfred/Almond area for his entire adult life and has resided in Knoll Crest Drive for nearly 37 years.
He was a graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School (class of 1970) and later earned his Associate’s Degree in Accounting from SUNY Alfred. Dave was a self-employed licensed electrician working for several area contractors. He was a “Jack Of All Trades” who enjoyed woodworking, especially building & refinishing furniture. He also loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills Football Team, especially during their “golden years”. Dave was known for his great sense of humor who loved keeping his friends laughing and was also known for his fantastic memory.
He was married to the former Lois Scovell who died June 10, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his father, George Housen who died in 1987 and his brother, George Housen, JR who died in 1978.
Surviving are his mother, Clare Housen of Lakeville, TX; 1 sister, Linda Gillette of Rochester; 1 brother, R. Gary Housen of Fountain Inn, SC; his “step-daughter”, Holly Scovell of Wellsville; several nieces & nephews.
The family of David R. “Dave” Housen will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where a Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 6:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
Dave’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to the Almond Volunteer Fire Department, Main St., Almond, NY 14804. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
RIP Dave. Say hey to Lois for all of us. Thanks for all of the laughs and great memories.

Rest in Peace Dave. I’ve been remininsing our year & a half long trip nationwide selling turquoise jewelry. Sure was a great ride! I’m glad I got to visit with you recently! It was fun going over our past & visiting our Alfred haunts! You will be missed my friend!
