Francis J. “Frip” Marino

Francis J. “Frip” Marino – (85) – of 348 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell, died early Saturday morning (November 26, 2011) at Rochester General Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on May 24, 1926, he was the son of Anthony & Rose Mary (Milanese) Marino.

Frip was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1944).  He was employed in many capacities for over 44 years at the former Erie Railroad, Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail.   For four of those years (1984-1988) his employment with the railroad forced him to live in Buffalo, but he was able to move back to Hornell in 1988.  He retired in 1989.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a communicant of both St. Ann’s Church and St. Ignatius Loyola Church.  He was a member of the G. Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy) and a life member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus.  He was also a former member of the Hornell Moose Lodge, Hornell Elks Club and the Hornell Association.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Townsend who died in 1971.

Frip was married on June 13, 1953 to the former Edna Drum who survives.  Also surviving are 4 sons, Michael J. (Martha) Marino of Hornell, Francis A “Fran” Marino of Hornell, Charles A. “Chuck” (Colleen) Marino of Temecula, CA and James F. (Eileen) Marino of Hornell; his mother, Rose Marino of Horseheads; 1 sister, Carol Waufle of Elmira; 10 grandchildren, Cara Marino, Mary (Graham) Marcus, Courtney (Travis) Charpentier, Lisa E. Marino, Lauren (Grant) LaFrance, Candace Marino, Joanna Marino, Ignatius Marino, Natalie Marino & Juliet Marino; 3 great-grandchildren, Madeline Marcus, Crosby Charpentier & Angelina LaFrance; 1 cousin, James (Jill) Curcio of Sun Lake, AZ; many nieces & nephews.

At Frip’s request there will be no calling hours.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to either St. Ann’s School, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.

    Our prayers are with you and your family, he was such a nice man.
    Someone once said to me when I lost my first husband, when I was 21 “You wouldn’t walk through a field of flowers and pick the ones that were wilted would you”? “Well God doesn’t either”. Not sure what that means for the rest of us still here,God Bless.
