Debora S. Clothier

Debora S. “Deb” Clothier – (57) – of 2327 Windfall Road, Canisteo, died Monday morning (September 5, 2011) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.

Born in North Hornell on October 19, 1953, she was the daughter of Leland “Bus” & Lena (Davis) Carnes.

Deb grew up in Hartsville and was a graduate of Canisteo Central School (class of 1972).  She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Hornell Gardens for several years and for 29 years served as a bus driver for the Canisteo Central School District.  For many years she worked as a waitress at the Kill Buck Inn in Canisteo.

Throughout the years, Deb enjoyed riding motorcycles, four-wheeling and snowmobiling.  She had a deep love for animals (especially her dogs) and also enjoyed owning & riding horses.  She enjoyed competitive “Team Penning & Sorting” which is rodeo style competition and also simply rode horses for enjoyment.

Deb was a member of the Canisteo American Legion.  She loved to spend countless hours working in her beautiful flower garden.  She enjoyed crafting & crocheting and would make beautiful baby blankets to give to family & friends to help celebrate the beginning of a new life.

She will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted sister, and a warm & loving friend to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.  She will be sadly missed by all.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Tamara Clothier of Canisteo and Tonya (Michael) Cooper of Cuba, NY; 3 brothers, Robert (Connie) Carnes of Wellington, CO, Jeffery (Donna) Carnes of Hartsville and Eugene (Nora) Carnes of Belfast; 1 sister, Dianne (Roger) Carney of Hartsville; 4 grandchildren, Justin Kerr, Emma Kerr, Garrett Cooper and Skyler Cooper; her dear & special friend, Bruce Watson; several nieces & nephews.

At Deb’s request there will be no calling hours or services.  Her hope is that her family & friends will not cry or feel sad when thinking of her.  Instead, she would like everyone to enjoy every minute of their lives, never take living for granted and fondly smile when remembering the wonderful times that they spent with her, knowing that she will always remain in their hearts.  As years go by, remember that while riding a horse, move up in the saddle because Deb would like to ride along with you!!

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.

To my wonderful family, I just want you all to know that I am grieving along with you and that we have truly been blessed to have Debbie as part of our family. Her courage and strength is not only a legacy to her children, but to all those that have had the priviledge of knowing her. My heart is sad knowing that she is no longer with us but happy knowing that she is reunited with Uncle Bus and Aunt Lena along with so many of our relatives. I love you all and will always be here for you. Let us remember what she wanted, to live our lives never taking one minute for granted!!!!! Each of you is in my thoughts and prayers, and remember she is with us each and every moment of every day. Remember, family is precious and we need to appreciate each other.

We will all miss Deb’s smiling face at the pennings and rodeos. I was blessed to have the opportunity to know her over the past 30 years during horse functions as well as family functions. She touched my heart with her strength during her battle with cancer. She loved her children and grandchildren and always talked to me about how proud she was of them all. She will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Love and prayers, The Baldwin Family.

Deb conducted herself with courage optimism throughout her struggle with a disease that yet defies a reliable treatment. Deb was one of the most unpretentious people I’ve known. Never one to put on airs, she spoke her mind but never did so in a demeaning way. My profound condolences to the Carnes family and Bruce.

  21. Jeanie Andrus says:

    Tonya, Tammie, Diane and Bruce,
I am very sorry for your loss of Deb. She was a caring, funloving and adventurous person. There was nothing more contagious than the sound of her laughter. My many memories of Deb at the Killbuck make me smile….but my favorite time that I shared with Deb was the ride on the bikes to see the Elk. We left in overcast 60 degree weather misting with rain hoping that the weather would improve as forecasted. Nope….the temp went down as the day went on. It was the coldest motorcycle ride I have ever been on! Each time we stopped she and I laughed at how freaking cold we were. 320 miles I think we rode that day, and at the end of the day we could think of nothing but a hot shower/bath. But we kept saying how much fun it was. And fun she made it. Deb was a wonderful person and someone I am proud to say that “she was my friend”. Our loss is God’s gain. May her spirit live on in her grandchildren whom she so loved. I will always remember Deb as a hard working, fun loving, compassionate person.
