Lorraine L. “Lou” Lewis – 85 – formerly of Rochester, died late Monday evening (July 18, 2011) at McAuley Manor where she has resided for the past 2 years.
Born in Rochester on March 14, 1926, she was the daughter of August & Evangeline Vetter.
Lorraine resided most of her life in Rochester and attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and Ben Franklin High School. She later attended Nazareth College.
She had been employed for many years at Woolensock Optical and also McCurdy’s Department Store in Rochester. She later worked as a bookkeeper at John Ames Motors for several years and had been a licensed real estate agent for Century 21 in Rochester.
Lorraine enjoyed camping and also vacationing — especially in the Thousand Islands and Florida. She also enjoyed sewing and embroidering. Lou was a self-proclaimed “QVC Addict” who loved shopping on the popular TV Show. She had a love of animals, especially her pet dogs.
The oldest of 10 children, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. She was also preceded in death by her loving companion, Jack Ames.
Surviving are her son, Bob (Rita) Lewis of Hornell; 1 daughter, Jean Alaimo of East Rochester; 3 sisters, Jean Green, Joanne Mooney & Marianne (George) Jeremenko; 2 brothers, Gerald (Dee Kinney) Vetter and Raymond Vetter; 6 grandchildren, Brian (Sharon) Lewis, Barbara (Frank) Brzozowski, Bobby (Kelly) Lewis, Maria (Buck) Lawson, Christopher Alaimo and Joey Alaimo; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
At Lorraine’s request there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family requests that memorial contributions in her name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620.
