Pauline I. Ryan – 96 – formerly of Ohio died Friday afternoon (December 24, 2010) at Updyke’s Willow Ridge Quality Care Facility in Hornell.

Born in Newark, OH on July 2, 1914, she was the daughter of Earl & Elizabeth (Long) Rainey.

Pauline grew up in Newark and was a graduate of Newark High School.  She later graduated from Newark Business School.  She had been employed for several years as a bookkeeper at Heisey Glass Company.

She resided for many years in Zanesville, OH where she was employed as a bookkeeper at Meadow Gold Dairy.  While living in Zanesville, she was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.  From 2005 – 2007 she lived with her daughter & son-in-law in Avoca, NY and had lived in Hornell for the past 3 years.

Pauline was married on January 7, 1939 to Kenneth Ryan who died in 1981.  She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Marcia Ryan who died in 1997.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Hughes of Avoca; 1 son, Terry (Janet) Ryan of Zanesville, OH; 1 brother, Robert (Betty) Rainey of Canton, OH; 6 grandchildren, Melinda (Eric) Leonard, Christopher (Roseanne) Ryan, Wendy Dowdy, Jennifer (John) Hickey, Jeffery (Veronica) Hughes and Andrea (John) Barry; 9 great-grandchildren, Jacob Leonard, Jessica Leonard, Travis Leonard, Ty Dowdy, Nicholas Ryan, Olivia Ryan, Hayden Barry, Julian Barry and Mia Hughes.

At Pauline’s request there will be no calling hours.  A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark, OH at the convenience of the family.
