John A. Falzarano

John A. Falzarano – 90 – of County Rt. 66, Green Acres Trailer Park, Hornell, died Saturday evening (November 13, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in Susquehanna, PA on July 28, 1920, he was the son of Thomas & Solidea Falzarano and the step-son of Girolama Falzarano.

John was a graduate of Susquehanna High School (class of 1938).  He served his country during WWII as a member of the US Navy.

Following his discharge from the US Navy, John owned & operated Falzarano Produce & Beverage in Hornell.  For over 30 years he was employed in several capacities for the former Erie Railroad and Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, retiring about 30 years ago.

John had been a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and also enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees.  He also liked to collect vintage railroad collectables and railroad memorabilia.

He was married in 1942 to the former Marie Hyde who died January 31, 2007.  Early in their married life, John and Marie contracted Tuberculosis and spent over a year in the Mt. Morris TB Hospital.

In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rose Marie; his 3 sons, William, John & Anthony who, along with Marie’s father, Charles Hyde, died tragically in a carbon monoxide accident in 1948; 2 brothers, Jim Falzarano and Dominic Falzarano; 3 sisters, Ann Quinn, Josephine Suzi and Angie Miller.

Surviving are 1 brother, Michael “Solideo” Falzarano of Chicago, IL; 1 sister, Peggy (Clayton) Collins of Clearwater, FL; many nieces & nephews including his caretaker and best friend, Phillip (Julie) Falzarano of Hornell.

At John’s request there will be no calling hours.  A Memorial Service honoring the lives of both John & Marie Falzarano will be held at a date & time to be announced.

John’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, PO Box 533, Hornell, NY 14843.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.
