William “Billy” Figueroa – 78 – of 13 Bostwick Place, died early Sunday morning (April 22, 2018) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Puerto Rico on April 17, 1940, he was the son of Estervina (Colero) Figueroa.
Billy’s family moved to Mainland United States when Billy was a child. He grew up in the Chicago, IL area, moving to the Hornell area 37 years ago.
He was employed for many years in the maintenance department of Morrison-Knudsen (MK) Corporation and in recent years worked in the kitchen of the Texas Café in Hornell.
On religious Holy Days, Billy would often attend services at St. Ann’s Church. He was an avid baseball fan and especially enjoyed rooting for his beloved Chicago White Sox. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television. One of Billy’s favorite pastimes was “Making a Friendly Wager or Two” at OTB.
Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Estervina (Colero) Figueroa and also her brother, Gualberto Figueroa.
Surviving are his lifelong companion, Marsha Dailey; 2 daughters, Kelly (Roger) Hall of Hornell and Casey (Jerry) Lathers of Hornell; 1 son, William Figueroa JR of Chicago; 4 brothers, Jose Santiago of Puerto Rico, Manuel (Maria) Figueroa of Florida, Rafael (Neomi) Figueroa of Chicago, IL and Leonardo (Guadalupe) Figueroa of Chicago, IL; 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Hazel, Ethan, Shelby, Paige & Aiden; several nieces & nephews.
At Billy’s request there will be no prior calling hours. Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, (May 19, 2018) at 2:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
Billy’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to National Parkinson Foundation, PO Box 23204, Rochester, NY 14692. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
