Anna Di Raimondo, 84, of 1190 County Route 66 (Green Acres Trailer Court), Hornell, passed away Saturday evening at McCauley Manor, following a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Santa (Constantino) Puleo.
She grew up in Brooklyn and also lived part of her life in Manhattan. On July 27, 1946, she married Peter A.
Di Raimondo Sr., five days after Peter was discharged from the Marine Corp. They returned to Brooklyn to live where she was a member of Sacred Heart Church and later St. Stephens Church.
While residing in Brooklyn, Anna started a business as a seamstress. Her first wedding gown was made for her sister Josephine Grillo in 1958. From there, Anna continued creating and making gowns and dresses for many clients in Brooklyn, Bronx, and the New York City area. In circles of wedding apparel designers and seamstresses, she was better known as “Ann, the Dressmaker.”
In 1990, Anna moved to Hornell where she was a lunchroom attendant in the North Hornell School for over 15 years. She also continued sewing gowns and doing alterations from her home. In addition, Anna was a member of the Italian-American Women’s Club. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.
Since 1995, she was the coordinator of the Constantino family reunion. Anna deeply loved her husband and family. Her hobbies included sewing, singing, knitting, gardening and reading. Her cookie jar and coffee pot were always ready for welcoming visits with family and friends, and she was never too busy to chat or share a loving word of advice.
In addition to her parents, Anna is predeceased by her brothers Angelo and Thomas Puleo and a sister Josephine (Puleo) Grillo.
She is survived by her husband Peter A. Di Raimondo SR, three children Peter A. (Rosalie) Di Raimondo JR, of North Hornell, Andrea ( Eugene) Scafidi of Taylorsville, NC, and Frank Di Raimondo of Hornell, NY; three grandchildren Peter A. (Erica) Di Raimondo III of East Windsor, NJ, Rosanna ( Adam) Knotts of Corning, NY, and Philip ( Lenae) Scafidi of Newton, NC; two great-grandchildren, Landon John and Owen James Di Raimondo She is also survived by a sister Angela (Frank) Del Prete and a brother, Frank Puleo both of the Bronx and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family of Anna Di Raimondo will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Ann’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
