Martha Glynn Samiec – (74) – of 2221 State Rt. 248, Rexville (Town of Greenwood), died Tuesday evening (July 15, 2014) at McAuley Manor, where she had resided since 2005.
Born in Hornell on January 16, 1940, she was the daughter of Thomas & Mary Alice (Riefer) Glynn.
Martha grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School (class of 1958). She later earned her Registered Nurses License from St. James School of Nursing.
She was employed as a registered nurse for more than 30 years, working with people with developmental disabilities and retiring from Monroe Developmental Center.
Martha was a former member of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell and more recently was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Rexville. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, knitting & crocheting and was an avid golfer. She was a former member of the Ladies of Columbus. Most importantly, Martha had a deep love for her family!
She was married in 1988 to her ever-loving husband of 26 years, Robert “Bob” Samiec who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Mark (Chris) Saltsman of Mt. Morris and Bruce (Sandra) Saltsman of Arcade; 2 daughters, Lori (Jerry Meyer) Saltsman of Henrietta and Jane (Jeff) Walent of Henrietta; step-children, Mark (Ellen Clark) Samiec of Rochester, Dawn Brown of Newellenton, SC, Bonnie (Milo) Turner of Livonia, Terrie (Chuck) Sanford of Nunda and Lori Koerner of Perry; 1 brother, Tom (Nancy) Glynn of Ormond Beach, FL; 4 sisters, Mary Ann (Francis “Babi”) Argentieri of Hornell, Suzanne (Martin) Christensen of Hornell, Mary Helen (Mark) Huffsmith of Moorhead, MN and Peggy Cregan of Hornell; grandchildren; step-grandchildren; nieces & nephews.
The family of Martha G. Samiec will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Ann’s Church.
