Anne M. Crandall – (89) – of 385 Fairview Ave., Hornell, died early Wednesday morning (September 18, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Pittston, PA on May 17, 1924, she was the daughter of William & Beatrice (Flynn) Arvidson. She has resided in Hornell since the age of five.
Anne grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1943). Throughout the years she had been employed as a sales clerk at Tuttle & Rockwell Department Store, Triangle Shoe Store and JC Penny’s. For 11 years she worked in the “communication’s department” of St. James Mercy Hospital, arranging for patients television & telephone hook-ups.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. She also was a member on the St. James Hospital Auxiliary.
Anne touched many lives and was loved by many. She will be sadly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her!
Anne was preceded in death by her son, James E. Crandall who died in 1999; 1 sister, Mary “Mae” McLaughlin; 1 brother Jack Arvidson; her great-great granddaughter, Hannah Logan.
She was married on July 29, 1946 to Charles Richard “Dick” Crandall who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Dianne (Randy) Tyner of Bradford, NY and Mary Ellen (Joe) Dropp of Hornell; 2 sons, Richard “Rick” (Marcia) Crandall of Hartsville and Steven (Sharon) Crandall of Hartsville; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
The family of Anne M. Crandall will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Aunt Anne was a very special person, and touched so many hearts.
I have such great memories of time we spent with her. She has joined her loved ones in Heaven.
