Ferdinando “Fred” Giovanniello

Ferdinando L. “Fred” Giovanniello – 70 – of 23 Pine St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Wednesday (January 2, 2012) at his home.

Born in Italy on April 10, 1942, he was the son of Americo & Pasqualina (Capozzi) Giovanniello.

Fred has resided in the United States since he was 14 years old.  He lived in Brooklyn for several years and on Long Island for many years.  He has resided in Hornell for over 25 years.

He enjoyed bowling and for several years bowled for Giovanni’s Team.  Fred loved gardening (both flower garden and vegetable garden) and also enjoyed woodworking. 

Surviving are his wife, Karen Coogan Giovanniello; 3 sons, Americo “Ricky” (Adele) Giovanniello, Ferdinando “Freddy” (Alyssa) Giovanniello and Victor (Maddie) Giovanniello, all of Long Island; 2 step-children, Kristy (William) Gosnell of South Carolina and Neal (Tara) Levi of Syracuse; 2 sisters, Anna Troisi of Italy and Gaetana “Gay” Lorusso of Florida; 2 brothers, Pete (Mary) Giovanniello of Dansville and William “Bill” (Lorraine) Giovanniello of Hornell; 7 grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

The family of Ferdinando L. “Fred” Giovanniello will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where a Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

    Although we have grown along with our mother has always talked about you and we did the same with our children. Your memory will always live and for remember you, Sunday at 10.30 there’s going to be a mass to remember in church where you were baptized. Petruro Irpino recalls fondly that guy that 56 years leave his loved Italy.

    Siamo qui per ricordare Ferdinando Giovanniello, da molti conosciuto poiché figlio di Pasqualina Capozzi ed Amerigo Giovanniello.
    Emigrato 56 anni fa, a soli 14 anni, insieme ai genitori ed altri tre fratelli, si è stabilito definitivamente in America, ed è per questo che molti di voi, probabilmente, non lo ricorderanno.
    Da quel giorno, non è mai voluto più tornare in Italia, perché l’amava troppo ed era consapevole di non avere la forza di poterla lasciare una seconda volta.
    Ferdinando è stato un uomo buono, un grande lavoratore, ed in famiglia ricordato come il “gigante Buono” sia per la sua statura fisica sia per il suo spessore morale.
    Lascia nel dolore la moglie Karen, i figli Amerigo, Ferdinando e Vittorio, i fratelli Anna, Gaetana, Pietro e Guglielmo, e numerosissimi nipoti e parenti.
    Noi lo ricordiamo e lo amiamo grazie ai costanti racconti prima della madre Pasqualina e poi della sorella Anna, tanto da aver avuto la sensazione di averlo sempre avuto con noi, sia nelle occasioni più significative della nostra vita che nella quotidianità.
    La famiglia Giovanniello – Troisi ringraziano tutti coloro i quali hanno voluto con la loro presenza dare omaggio alla memoria del caro congiunto Ferdinando e condividere il dolore per la sua prematura perdita.

    Uncle Fred you are so loved and will be very missed. I remember when you used to take Billy and I fishing when we were kids. You always showed us love and we will never forget that. You always made us laugh and smile Thank you for being a wonderful uncle. My father said you were a great brother and friend. We love you!
